Whirlpool State Park

Whirlpool State Park is too cool of a name to just drive by it. The park defied my expectation and was my favorite of the day by far.

What causes the whirlpools, you might wonder? I definitely did, and I'm just going to direct you to the information on St. David's Gorge to explain it. The most interesting part to me was probably the explanation of the water color. A combination of algae and other single and multi-cellular organisms, dissolved minerals, and highly oxygenated water allow for the reflection of the brilliant aquamarine color I tried to articulate in my Devil's Hole post.

I'm going to let the video speak for itself here. It was truly mesmerizing.

For more exicting off-beat trip highlights, you'll have to keep coming back. :)
